According to a survey conducted by Bain & Company, using Artificial Intelligence (AI) for online shopping has become a part of daily life for the majority of Brazilians. 58% of consumers stated that they value the support provided by AI in terms of price comparison, products, sellers, and websites.
As reported by "CNN Brazil," 52% of respondents mentioned that another common use of AI is to search for products using photos and images.
The survey revealed that consumers tend to rely on AI to select products that best meet their needs, especially for higher-investment items such as computers and home appliances.
Gabriele Zuccarelli, Partner and Head of Retail Practice at Bain & Company South America, stated, "The survey shows that consumers see value in AI throughout the entire purchase process, including product search, purchase decision-making, and after-sales service."
The survey also indicated that consumers seek instructions and other advice from AI after making a purchase, not just during the buying phase.
Respondents expressed willingness to shift part of the shopping process to virtual assistants. The most commonly mentioned product categories purchased through AI include electronics and appliances (66%), home decor (63%), and beauty and personal care products (63%).
Regarding channel preferences for interacting with AI, 49% of respondents leaned towards using everyday tools because of their integrative and preference recognition capabilities.
44% of respondents stated that they use browser integration technologies as these tools can aggregate information from multiple websites and provide available functionalities throughout the entire purchasing process. Respondents also actively mentioned interacting with AI assistants within applications, brand websites (40%), or platforms (39%).
