Brazilian President Lula gave a speech at the expanded G7 summit in Kananskis, Canada, where he mentioned that the conflict between Iran and Israel could turn the Middle East into "a battlefield." He criticized Israel's actions in Gaza, pointing out the "excessive killing" of women and children and the use of starvation as a weapon of war, which he deemed unjustifiable.

Lula emphasized that some countries refuse to recognize the state of Palestine, implying that these countries selectively uphold justice and law. He called on the United Nations to take concrete action promptly to end global conflicts, mentioning the Russia-Ukraine conflict and stating that only through dialogue can a ceasefire be achieved, paving the way for lasting peace.

Furthermore, Lula discussed the fact that members of the G7 have permanent seats on the United Nations Security Council, urging the Security Council to reclaim a leading role in conflict resolution. He noted that Brazil has long advocated for reforming UN institutions and securing a seat in an expanded Security Council.

While Brazil is not a member of the G7, President Lula has been invited to the group's meetings several times as the President of Brazil. Following a meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Carney, his planned meeting with German Chancellor Merkel did not materialize.

During the expanded G7 summit, Lula also mentioned the importance of the Group of Twenty (G20) and believed that the G20 is more representative. He pointed out that the G7 became less significant after the establishment of the G20 but still accepts invitations to participate in meetings.
