According to the latest data from Alphaliner, the world's largest container shipping company, Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), has a shipping capacity exceeding 7 million TEUs, with a market share of 21.2%.

Alphaliner's data indicates that as of November 2, 2025, the global container fleet comprises 7,449 vessels with a total capacity of 333.41 million TEUs.

In the Top 100 container shipping companies globally, MSC holds the top position with 955 vessels, consisting of 688 owned and 267 chartered vessels, totaling a capacity of 7.03 million TEUs. Additionally, MSC has 124 new-built container ships on order, totaling 2.174 million TEUs.

As reported by ShippingWatch, MSC has been expanding continuously in recent years and has acquired over 50 second-hand container ships this year. Compared to early October, MSC's capacity has increased by 11 vessels or 101,000 TEUs, maintaining its top position in terms of growth rate.

Significantly, the capacity gap between MSC and the second-ranked Maersk (4.603 million TEUs) has further widened to 2.4 million TEUs, nearing the capacity of Maersk's partner Hapag-Lloyd at around 2.41 million TEUs.

In the latest Top 100 container shipping companies, it is noteworthy that Yang Ming Marine Transport has surpassed ZIM once again, reclaiming the 9th position.

The rankings from 11 to 20 are as follows: Wan Hai Lines, Pacific International Lines (PIL), X-Press Feeders, SITC International, Korea Marine Transport (KMTC), UniFeeder, Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines (IRISL), Sinokor Merchant Marine (SINOKOR), Sealead Shipping, and Regional Container Lines (RCL).

The rankings from 21 to 30 are as follows: TS Lines, Emirates Shipping, Ningbo Ocean Shipping, Heung-A Shipping, GRIMALDI, Interasia Lines, Antong Holdings, Matson Navigation Company (MATSON), SM Line, and Samudera Shipping Line.

In terms of new ship orders, MSC currently holds the most orders with 124 vessels totaling 2.174 million TEUs, accounting for 31.1% of its existing fleet. CMA CGM Group ranks second with 129 vessels totaling 1.715 million TEUs. COSCO Shipping ranks third in terms of order volume with 82 vessels totaling 1.183 million TEUs.

In recent years, in the context of decarbonization and shipping alliance restructuring, leading shipping companies such as MSC, CMA CGM Group, PIL, and Wan Hai Lines have continued to place orders for new ships to meet future demands.

Analysts note that the International Maritime Organization's (IMO) postponement of the "Net Zero Framework" vote by a year has not slowed down container ship orders. The number of global container ship orders remains high, with over 1,000 vessels and a total capacity exceeding 10 million TEUs, accounting for over 33% of the global fleet.

Shipbuilding brokers indicate that while demand for feeder container ships remains dominant, there continues to be sustained demand for large container ships. More orders are expected to appear by the end of the year as leading shipping companies advance their new ship plans.
