The first 9,200-vehicle LNG dual-fuel car carrier ship "BYD SHENZHEN," constructed by CCCC Nanjing Jinling Shipyard for BYD, has successfully completed its maiden voyage. This globally largest car carrier ship measures 219.9 meters in length, 37.7 meters in width, has a draft of 9 meters, a designed speed of 18.5 knots, and can carry 9,200 vehicles. The ship features an innovative LNG dual-fuel clean power system, equipped with energy-saving devices, anti-fouling paint for drag reduction, and for the first time, BYD's containerized battery packs and shaft generators, showcasing technical advantages in green and intelligent efficiency.
Against the backdrop of a dual-carbon environment, China's new energy vehicle industry is rapidly growing, with a continuous demand for transportation capacity. The era of clean power and large vessels is accelerating. BYD has ordered four 9,200-vehicle LNG dual-fuel car carrier ships, with two being constructed by Nanjing Jinling and two by China Merchants Heavy Industry (Jiangsu), scheduled for delivery and operation by 2025. These new ships have been specifically designed and detailed by the Finnish ship design and engineering company Deltamarin to meet BYD's requirements.
As BYD's fourth car carrier ship, the "BYD SHENZHEN" surpasses the previous three 7,000-vehicle carriers - "BYD EXPLORER NO.1," "BYD CHANGZHOU," and "BYD HEFEI" - in size. The second ship of the same 9,200-vehicle series, "BYD CHANGSHA," is set to launch soon. BYD plans to invest in a total of 8 car carrier ships by January 2026.
