According to data released by the Ministry of Transport on the 29th, in 2024, the national port cargo throughput reached 1.76 billion tons, and the container throughput reached 330 million TEUs, maintaining its position as the world's top port in terms of volume. Among the top ten ports in the world in terms of cargo and container throughput, China holds eight and six positions, respectively.
The themed publicity campaign "Charming Port, Vibrant China · World-Class Port Construction" was launched on the 29th at the Ningbo-Zhoushan Port. This information was obtained during the launch ceremony.
China has formed world-class port clusters such as the Bohai Rim, Yangtze River Delta, and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, with port infrastructure scale consistently ranking first globally for many years. Key port construction projects are accelerating, the port layout of major cargo transportation systems is being further optimized, the proportion of large deep-water specialized terminal berths has significantly increased, and the number of completed and under-construction automated terminals ranks first in the world. The creation of a batch of nearly zero-carbon ports is accelerating, with continuous growth in the application of new energy and clean energy in ports, as well as the proportion of green collection and distribution transport.
At the event, the "report card" presented by all parties showcased the remarkable achievements of China's high-quality port development.
"These achievements not only demonstrate the strong capabilities of Chinese ports but also serve as an important engine supporting China's modernization in its own style," said a representative from the Ministry of Transport's Policy Research Office.
A representative from the Water Transport Department of the Ministry of Transport stated that in the new era and on the new journey, aiming to construct world-class ports, China's port construction should adhere to three "adherence" principles: first, adhere to integrated development, improve the port collection and distribution system, develop water-to-water transshipment and rail-water combined transport, and promote the coordinated development of regional ports; second, adhere to innovative development, vigorously promote the construction of smart ports and green ports, strengthen the deep integration of new technologies such as blockchain and artificial intelligence with port operations, and accelerate the promotion and application of new energy and clean energy in ports; third, adhere to safe development, deepen the investigation and rectification of major risks, strengthen safety production and emergency response capabilities, improve the construction of a dual prevention mechanism, and enhance the inherent safety of ports.
