According to the 2025 edition of the ICT Household Survey released by the Regional Center for Studies on the Development of the Information Society in Brazil (Cetic.br), 32% of internet users in Brazil are currently using generative artificial intelligence (AI) tools such as ChatGPT, Copilot, and Gemini. This survey marks the first investigation into the prevalence of such technologies in Brazilian households.

The survey was conducted between March and August this year, reaching over 24,000 individuals. The results reveal distinct characteristics among AI users: they are typically young, well-educated, and belong to the upper social strata. The usage rate among the A income group reaches 69%, while it stands at only 16% for the D and E income groups, highlighting a significant digital divide.

Education level is another key factor. Among Brazilians with higher education, 59% reported using some form of generative AI during the survey period, which is more than three times the percentage of those with only primary education (17%) and significantly higher than those with secondary education (29%).

Analysis by age group shows that AI technologies are primarily used by the younger generation. Over half (55%) of individuals aged 16 to 24 have used AI, while the usage rate for the 25 to 34 age group is 44%. In contrast, only 9% of users aged 60 and above reported using these tools.

Of all users utilizing AI tools, 84% use them for personal purposes. Half of the users (50%) use them in the workplace, while 53% apply them for school research or academic work.

For internet users who have not yet used AI, the reasons vary. 76% stated "lack of interest or need" as the primary reason. Technological barriers and fear are also hindrances to use: 63% lack the skills to use these tools, and 52% are unaware of their existence.

Cybersecurity concerns are also a significant barrier. 58% of non-users of AI are worried about security or privacy issues. This concern is prevalent across all education levels, affecting both those with higher education (50%) and those with only primary education (52%).

Despite the rapid development of artificial intelligence, 65% of internet users access the internet solely through their mobile phones, with this percentage rising to 84% in the D and E social strata. This limitation in devices may restrict people from fully exploring more complex AI tools. In the overall digital services landscape, basic services continue to be the primary bridge between citizens and technology. For instance, last year, 71% of users sought public services online, and 75% made payments through Pix. This indicates that AI integration is still in its early stages within the broader digital services framework.
