BYD celebrated a milestone in early August in the Brazilian market, having sold a cumulative total of 150,000 electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles. Remarkably, the brand entered the Brazilian passenger car market just over three years ago. As early as the beginning of 2022, BYD launched the luxury electric cars Han and Tan in the region.

After entering the top ten light vehicle brands in Brazil in 2024, BYD is poised to continue its progress in 2025. In July of this year, BYD surpassed Honda nationwide in light vehicle sales, reaching levels seen in December of the previous year.

As a result, BYD ranks eighth in sales of passenger cars and light commercial vehicles. In July this year, BYD sold a total of 9,693 electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles, on par with Jeep (9,960 units) and Renault (9,862 units). These figures are from the Brazilian National Association of Motor Vehicle Distributors (Fenabrave).

In cumulative sales for 2025 (January to July), BYD has moved up one spot compared to last year, currently ranking ninth, surpassing Nissan, which dropped to tenth place. It is expected to climb to eighth place by the end of the year, as by July, BYD had sold a cumulative total of 57,388 vehicles, trailing Honda by less than a thousand units.

In terms of models, following Han and Tan (priced above 500,000 reais), BYD introduced the Song PLUS in 2022. The following year, the company focused on the electric vehicle market, launching the Dolphin, proving that with the right market positioning and focus on specific consumer groups, pure electric vehicles can also achieve significant sales volume.

In 2024, despite introducing the Mini Dolphin model, the main focus was on plug-in hybrid models, especially the Song Pro and Qin King. Moving into 2025, the Song series continues to lead, with BYD selling a total of 20,647 units of this type, followed by the Mini Dolphin (16,221 units), becoming the main sales drivers for BYD in Brazil.

Next are the moderately selling models: Dolphin (7,586 units) and Qin King (7,213 units). Additionally, BYD's product line in Brazil includes the Yuan (electric and hybrid versions), the Shark pickup, the all-electric sedan Seal, as well as the Han and Tan.

Regarding future plans, BYD's luxury brand Denza (Tengshi) under the BYD Group has confirmed its entry into Brazil this year. According to reports from Brazilian media, Denza will launch two models in October: the SUV B5 and the sedan Z9.

Furthermore, on July 1st, BYD officially started production at its new factory in Camaçari, Bahia, where they have begun assembling models such as the Mini Dolphin and Song Pro.
