Recently, some companies in Brazil have begun implementing a new work model that allows employees to adjust their working hours based on their individual circadian rhythms to meet the varied work status needs of employees, including both "early birds" and "night owls."

According to Zhongjin's understanding, Laerte Nogueira, a manager at Everymind Company, starts working from 11 a.m. because the company follows an attendance model called "chronoworking," allowing employees to choose their most suitable work hours based on their circadian rhythms. Under this model, employees can work efficiently during their biologically active periods, whether in the morning or at night.

Vânia D'Almeida, a professor at the Medical School of the Federal University of São Paulo (Unifesp) and a researcher at the Sleep Institute, pointed out that most people fall into the "neutral type," without a clear time preference, being able to adapt to either early rising or late sleeping.

This flexible work model, popular overseas, is now being implemented in several companies in Brazil as well, often in conjunction with remote work arrangements. Eduardo Nunes, Vice President of People and Culture at Everymind, stated that employees can choose their preferred work hours independently but need to communicate and coordinate with superiors, team members, and clients. Among the company's 500+ employees, nearly 90% can arrange their work schedule freely, enhancing employee satisfaction with the company.

Experts believe that this work model can enhance employees' work efficiency and mental well-being, provided that employees' circadian rhythm preferences are respected and they maintain regular, healthy sleep habits.

Pedro Camargo, a researcher and professor at the Getulio Vargas Foundation (FGV) in Brazil, believes that the key lies in whether employees can deliver results on time, rather than just working hours. He noted that this approach can reduce mental health issues and improve employees' collaboration skills.

Eduardo, the Vice President at Everymind, mentioned that this work model brings multiple benefits to the company: improving employees' quality of life, balancing work and personal life; enhancing work efficiency, increasing employee engagement and motivation; helping retain talent, and enhancing diversity and inclusivity among employees. resources expert Renato Amendola pointed out that the pandemic has demonstrated that work efficiency depends more on focus, clear goals, and a sense of purpose, rather than rigid working hours. "In large cities, commuting often takes hours, and daily work can be exhausting. This flexible work model can significantly improve quality of life and, consequently, work efficiency. However, to truly promote this model, continuous development and updates to relevant regulations are needed, especially in Brazil's labor laws."
