According to foreign media reports, on November 28th local time in the United States, the shipping company ONE announced that the container ship "ONE Henry Hudson" encountered General Average after a fire incident at the Port of Los Angeles, and the shipowner has officially declared it.
In the notification, the shipowner has designated Richard Hogg Lindley as the Average Adjuster to coordinate the collection of General Average guarantees and related documents and guide customers through the necessary processes. Although the contact information for the Average Adjuster has not been disclosed yet, ONE urges all cargo owners (or their insurance companies) to directly contact the designated Average Adjuster and promptly submit guarantees and related documents. The cargo will not be released until the necessary arrangements are completed between the customers and the Average Adjuster.
According to the U.S. Coast Guard, the container ship that anchored outside the Port of Los Angeles last Friday was towed back to the dock on Wednesday evening without reporting any signs of fire or heat. Currently, the "ONE Henry Hudson" container ship has safely returned to port and is undergoing cargo inspection and firefighting operations, including discharging wastewater.
Captain Stacey Crecy, the Incident Commander of the U.S. Coast Guard, stated that the safe return of the vessel to port demonstrates the continued efforts of the unified command structure and partnership. She emphasized that ensuring the safety of the public and personnel is the top priority, and they will persevere in completing the mission.
The fire on the ship occurred on the evening of Friday, November 21st, with nearly 200 firefighters involved in firefighting efforts. The ship was towed to the anchorage early Saturday morning, while firefighting operations continued. The incident did not result in any casualties and is the latest in a series of recent fires on container ships, typically taking several weeks or even months to fully extinguish. The U.S. Coast Guard and the National Transportation Safety Board are jointly investigating the cause of the accident.
The "ONE Henry Hudson" is owned by Ocean Network Express (ONE), with a length of 336 meters, flying the flag of Panama, and owned by Fukunaga Steamship Co., Ltd., located in Imabari City, Ehime Prefecture, Japan, operated by One Ocean Express based in Singapore.
