The container throughput at the Port of Long Beach in October remained stable, with Chief Executive Officer Mario Cordero stating that the tariff impact was lower than expected.

In specific figures, the container throughput at the Port of Long Beach in October reached 840,000 TEUs, a 14.9% decrease compared to the same period last year. Import containers decreased by 17.6% to 402,000 TEUs, while export containers dropped by 11.5% to 100,000 TEUs. Additionally, the number of empty containers decreased by 12.6% to 338,000 TEUs.

For the first ten months of 2025, the container throughput at the Port of Long Beach reached 8.23 million TEUs, a 4.1% increase compared to the same period last year. Import containers increased by 2.7% to 3.987 million TEUs, while export containers decreased by 5.9% to 928,000 TEUs.

Cordero stated that despite uncertainties brought by changes in trade policies, the Port of Long Beach continues to operate steadily. He noted that Black Friday is expected to be strong, but consumers may be cautious due to price increases.

Cordero emphasized that while consumers have not yet clearly felt the impact of tariffs, as time progresses, commodity prices may rise, with more costs being passed on to consumers.

Overall, the outcomes of the meeting between the Chinese and U.S. leaders and the negotiation results of the Chinese and U.S. economic and trade teams have resonated globally. Cordero added that the suspension of some tariffs and port fees will bring more practical and certain solutions, looking forward to 2026.

Long Beach Port's Chief Operating Officer, Noel Hacegaba, addressed questions about the fluctuations in cargo volume at U.S. West Coast ports due to the tariff policies of "Trump 2.0," pointing out that the volume of goods handled at the Port of Long Beach is larger than last year, with no backlogs, congestion, or delays, even during government shutdowns, ensuring smooth transportation of goods.
