The Polish government plans to launch a mega-port project with a total investment of 2.35 billion euros (approximately 19.3 billion RMB), aiming to build Poland's second deep-water container hub after the Gdańsk port. The port is located at Szczecin Swinoujscie on the Baltic Sea coast, near Germany, known as Cape Pomerania (Pomerania is the birthplace of the Pomeranian dog).
The Cape Pomerania project will involve reclaiming 186 hectares of land from the sea, constructing a new 3-kilometer quay line, and a harbor basin with a depth of 17 meters. The deep-water container quay line, measuring 1.3 kilometers, will be able to accommodate 3 container ships simultaneously, with the capability to unload the world's largest container vessels, with an annual throughput of up to 2 million TEUs.
The project is expected to be awarded in the fourth quarter of 2026, construction will commence in 2027, and operations are set to begin in 2029. To complement the new facilities, the government is also planning new road and rail systems and will implement zero-emission technology and shore power systems to ensure that the port becomes a green port. The investment also includes a 47-hectare logistics park.
The Szczecin Swinoujscie Port Authority stated that this is the most ambitious plan in the port's 75-year history, positioning Poland in the premier league of ports.
