Japan's Ocean Network Express (ONE) has achieved a new breakthrough in the container shipping industry, with its container ship "ONE Innovation" completing a mission to load 22,233 TEUs, setting a new world record for the highest number of containers carried by a single vessel. This 24,000 TEU-class giant vessel is one of the ships of its kind and has set sail from Singapore, heading towards the Port of Felixstowe in the UK along the FE4 route.
The "ONE Innovation" is ONE's first 24,000 TEU-class ultra-large container ship, delivered by Japan Marine United (JMU) Kure Shipyard in 2023. With an actual maximum carrying capacity of 24,136 TEUs, it is currently the largest vessel in the ONE fleet.
This achievement surpasses the record set by ONE in December 2023 when the "ONE Innovation" loaded 22,000 TEUs in the Port of Singapore. In an earlier feat in November 2023, the vessel set a new historical record by carrying 21,954 TEUs.
Ocean Network Express was established in 2017 through the integration of the liner businesses of Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha (K-Line), Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL), and Nippon Yusen Kaisha (NYK Line). The company is currently the sixth largest container carrier globally, with a fleet of over 272 vessels and a total capacity of approximately 2.09 million TEUs.
