Daif Group announces the acquisition of Freightliner UK Intermodal Logistics, a leading railway logistics operator in the UK, becoming a key player in the UK railway logistics sector. Freightliner is the largest maritime intermodal logistics operator in the UK, transporting containers by train from major ports to 12 inland depots with approximately 500 electric trucks. This acquisition includes its railway and road transport operations, inland depots, and the Freightliner brand, while other companies under Freightliner will retain their existing ownership.
Daif Group states that this acquisition demonstrates its ambition to establish sustainable and competitive transport products in Europe and reaffirms its commitment to supporting the shift from road to rail modes to drive global supply chain decarbonization. The transaction is expected to be completed in early 2026 pending regulatory approval. Following the acquisition, Freightliner will continue to operate independently, benefiting from the support of Daif Group in the global logistics and shipping sectors.
Rodolphe Saade, Chairman and CEO of Daif Group, stated that the acquisition of Freightliner strengthens their intermodal business in the UK, enhances the connectivity between maritime, rail, and road transport, provides better solutions for customers, and supports decarbonization of global trade. Tim Shoveller, CEO of Freightliner Group, mentioned that the deal will allow both companies to focus on their respective markets and position the intermodal business as an independent entity within Daif Group, potentially collaborating with other Daif subsidiaries.
In the UK, Daif Group employs nearly 7,200 staff in maritime, logistics, and land services. Their shipping agency employs 286 staff, operates 28 routes, and transported approximately 802,000 TEUs in the UK in 2024. In intermodal transport, Daif Group, through its subsidiary CCIS, transported 200,000 TEUs by rail and road between January and July 2025. CEVA Logistics, a subsidiary of Daif Group, employs 6,768 staff in the UK, has a warehouse capacity of 718,000 square meters, an annual air freight volume of 33,800 tons, a maritime volume of 69,400 TEUs, and provides end-to-end solutions, consolidating its leading position in the UK and across Europe.
