According to Taiwanese media reports, a container ship named "Ever Lunar," owned by Evergreen Marine Corporation, was involved in a maritime accident outside the anchorage of Puerto del Callao, the largest port in Peru. The incident resulted in at least 50 containers falling into the sea. Peruvian authorities implemented port closure measures, causing temporary chaos in port operations, which gradually returned to normal.

The "Ever Lunar" container ship is 335 meters long, 46 meters wide, and can carry up to 9,532 standard containers. The accident occurred approximately 3.9 nautical miles northeast of San Lorenzo Island, with an initial estimate of about 50 containers falling into the sea.

Peru's Emergency Operations Center and Navy Port Operations Unit initiated a Level 5 maritime alert, sealing off the entire area. Some routes were later reopened. The Peruvian Coast Guard dispatched vessels for salvage operations at sea, confirming no hazardous material leaks but maintaining surveillance until all containers are removed.

Evergreen Marine stated that the incident was caused by the impact of a tsunami triggered by an earthquake in Russia and adverse sea conditions, leading to the containers falling. Both crew members and the vessel are safe, and an investigation will be conducted in collaboration with local port authorities.

It is noteworthy that this is the second recent incident of a similar nature for Evergreen Marine. Previously, another cargo ship, the "Ever Feat," experienced a similar container collapse at the port of Montevideo in Uruguay. Additionally, a cargo ship named "Wan Chun Lun," owned by Taiwan's Wan Hai Lines, suffered a fire on the west coast of India, resulting in four missing crew members and five injured. These companies' operations were not significantly affected as the vessels are insured against hull damage, classifying these events as unforeseen accidents.
