The Brazilian Ministry of Development, Industry, Trade, and Services announced on March 26 that nearly a thousand types of goods will be subject to zero import tariffs. This decision is mainly due to limited domestic production or insufficient production to meet market demands for these goods in Brazil. The decision is implemented by the Executive Management Committee on Foreign Trade (Gecex).

This list encompasses 970 products, including capital goods, information technology, and communication equipment, with 191 electronic and information technology products benefiting from a temporary tariff exemption lasting four months. Additionally, another 191 products involve electronic products falling under the Informatized Production Process, such as smartphones, computer equipment, and electronic components. The government had already implemented a zero-tariff policy for 105 of these products in February of this year.

The newly announced range of zero-tariff imported products also includes drugs for treating diabetes, Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, and schizophrenia; fungicides and insecticides for agricultural use; raw materials for the textile industry; hops for beer brewing; and nutritional products for hospital use.

Previously, the government had adjusted import tariffs on over 1200 products at the beginning of February. This measure aimed to balance domestic industrial competitiveness and address the impact of imported products on domestically produced goods. However, this measure generated adverse reactions in related industries.

During the same meeting, the Executive Management Committee on Foreign Trade also decided to implement a final anti-dumping import tax for a period of five years on ethanolamine products from China and polyethylene resin products from the United States and Canada. For polyethylene resin products, the tax rate will be lowered to the previously implemented temporary tariff level for six months to alleviate additional impacts on downstream industries in the production chain.
