The Brazilian National Association of Grain Exporters (Anec) announced on Wednesday that due to increased soybean imports by China, it is expected that Brazilian soybean exports from January to October this year will reach 102.2 million tons, surpassing the total exports for the whole year of 2024 and 2023, setting a new record.

According to "CNN Brazil," last year's total soybean exports from Brazil were 97.3 million tons due to production reductions caused by weather conditions. Anec data reveals that Brazil, as the world's largest producer and exporter of soybeans, had previously set a soybean export record of 101.3 million tons in 2023.

Apart from this year's record-high Brazilian soybean production exceeding 170 million tons, the increase in Brazilian soybean exports is also benefiting from additional demand from China. Due to the ongoing U.S.-China trade war, China has refrained from negotiations with the U.S., which is Brazil's competitor in the oilseed market.

Anec stated, "China continues to be the main destination for Brazilian soybeans and drives its exports: in September, China imported 6.5 million tons of soybeans, accounting for 93% of Brazil's total soybean exports, maintaining a historically high level."

According to Anec's data, the average percentage of Brazilian soybeans imported by China in 2025 stands at 79.9%, compared to an average of 74% from 2018 to 2024. In 2024, China's share was 76%.

However, according to official Brazilian government data, China's share of Brazilian exports from the beginning of this year until now is slightly lower than the same period in 2018, at 80.55%. Anec estimates that Brazilian soybean exports in October this year will reach 110 million tons, with an additional 8 million tons expected to be exported in November and December to confirm the annual export estimate.

This month, Anec projects Brazilian corn exports to be 6 million tons, an increase of approximately 380,000 tons from the same period last year. As of October, the total annual corn exports from Brazil are estimated to be 30 million tons.

Anec forecasts Brazilian soybean meal exports in October this year to be 1.92 million tons, lower than the 2.46 million tons from the same period last year. The expected export volume by the end of this month is anticipated to exceed 19 million tons.

According to the consultancy firm Pátria AgroNegócios, as of October 17, the soybean planting area for the 2025/2026 season in Brazil has reached 23.27%, significantly higher than the 9.33% at the same time last year. The company noted that despite abnormal weather conditions in some regions, the planting area for the new crops is also far higher than the 17.35% in 2018 and the five-year average of 16.20%. The company highlighted, "The planting progress in the northern part of Mato Grosso, southern part of South Mato Grosso, and Paraná is rapid and stands out currently. Rainfall remains unstable in the short term."
