Brazil is gradually becoming a popular destination for overseas tourists. According to data from the Central Bank of Brazil, spending by foreign tourists in Brazil has reached a historic high, with a shift in the visitor profile where the growth in tourist visitors far exceeds that of business visitors. Currently, for every $1 spent on business travel expenditures, leisure tourism can bring in $4 in revenue.

According to reports, based on data from the Central Bank of Brazil, foreign spending in Brazil over the past 12 months has reached $7.82 billion, covering expenses such as airfare, hotels, tourism, dining, and shopping. The Central Bank of Brazil is responsible for tracking this data, recording all foreign currency transactions, such as credit card transactions or currency exchanges.

Foreign spending in Brazil has reached its highest level in history, surpassing even the spending during global events such as the World Cup in Rio and the Olympics in Rio. In June of this year, international tourism revenue over the past 12 months has grown by 30% compared to the World Cup in 2014 and by 67% compared to the Rio Olympics in 2016.

The prosperity of the tourism industry is accompanied by an interesting shift. A decade ago, foreign tourists spent nearly the same on business and leisure travel. However, in recent years, leisure traveler spending has increased significantly, widening the gap without affecting business travel expenditures.

In 2013, spending by foreign leisure travelers was less than twice that of business travelers, with leisure travelers spending $1.9 for every $1 spent by business travelers. Now, for every $1 spent by Brazilian business travelers, leisure travelers spend $4 on accommodation, tourism, and food.

These statistics validate a trend seen on social media, especially on platforms like TikTok and Instagram, where many foreigners share their travel experiences in Brazil.

Beaches, cities, subways, samba, forró (music and dance), coconut water, sugarcane juice, and even the medical services of the Brazilian Unified Health System (SUS) have become popular topics on social media.

Data from Google Trends shows an unprecedented surge in searches for keywords like "Brazil travel," "Brazil flights," and "Brazil visa" on the internet.

According to data from the Brazilian Ministry of Tourism, from January to July 2025, Brazil received 5.9 million foreign tourists, a 47.5% increase compared to the previous year. South America remains the main source of tourists, with a total of 3.7 million visitors, especially from Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, and Paraguay. European tourists numbered 532,000, with the highest numbers coming from France, Portugal, Germany, and the UK. Visitors from the United States totaled 465,000.
