Brazil's Ministry of Finance has announced the establishment of a tax consulting office in the Chinese capital, Beijing. Since 2023, the Brazilian Federal Revenue Service has regarded this move as a strategic plan to address the increasing volume of goods circulation between China and Brazil. This will be the fifth tax consulting office established abroad by the Brazilian Federal Revenue Service, aimed at expediting trade processes and reducing trade bureaucracy.

Brazil's initial tax representation offices were established in Washington, USA, and Buenos Aires, the capital of Argentina, in the early 2000s, followed by similar institutions in Asunción, Paraguay, and Montevideo, Uruguay, in 2002.

China has been Brazil's largest trading partner since 2009, so setting up tax and customs business professional representation locally will bring various advantages, including promoting mutual understanding of local laws, regulations, and tax policies, reducing trade barriers, driving bilateral trade development, and combating illegal activities.

The Brazilian Ministry of Finance points out that establishing a tax consulting office in China will help reduce tax evasion, smuggling, and other illegal activities, promoting information and experience exchange between the two countries. This plan has been under discussion since 2023 and has been explored by multiple government departments over the past two years, with an assessment from the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs earlier this year.

As relations between China and Brazil become increasingly close, the two countries recently signed a memorandum of understanding to collaborate on a feasibility study for a railway corridor connecting Lucas do Rio Verde in Mato Grosso state, Brazil, with Chancay in Peru, significantly reducing maritime time and costs for Brazilian products destined for China and Asia.
