
In 2025, the global container ship total capacity increased by approximately 7.1%. According to Clarkson data, the total deliveries of container ships in 2025 were 270 vessels, with a total deadweight tonnage of 24.546 million and 2.183 million TEU. Additionally, 11 vessels with less than 10,000 TEU were scrapped.
The fleet size of Mediterranean Shipping Line (MSC) showed the most significant growth, increasing by 507,000 TEU over the past year, accounting for 23.2% of the total increment. The total fleet size reached 3.853 million TEU, solidifying its position as the industry leader and widening the gap with second-place Maersk to 1.362 million standard containers. CMA CGM steadily narrowed the gap with Maersk with a growth rate of 14.6%.
Regarding the order book for container ships, it reached a new high in 2025, totaling 8.656 million TEU. MSC leads the way in terms of container ships on order, with 113 vessels, 21.853 million deadweight tons, and 2.123 million TEU. Following MSC is CMA CGM with 80 vessels, 14.941 million deadweight tons, and 1.397 million TEU. Moreover, Evergreen Line, Cosco Shipping, and ONE also have order books exceeding 500,000 TEU.
