The Port of Long Beach is set to experience its busiest year ever, thanks to a surge of concentrated shipments before the implementation of U.S. tariffs this year. The total cargo volume for the year is expected to surpass the historical record of 9.6 million standard containers set in 2024.

In November, the Port of Long Beach had its second busiest month in history, handling 817,600 standard containers, representing a 7.5% decrease compared to the same period last year. Import volume decreased by 7.5% to 400,505 standard containers, while export volume decreased by 7.5% to 110,122 standard containers. The number of empty containers transshipped through the port decreased by 8.2% to 306,924 standard containers.

Mario Cordero, CEO of the Port of Long Beach, stated, "The logistics operations at the Port of Long Beach are robust, with no congestion or interruptions. Despite the trade policy fluctuations in 2025 bringing significant uncertainty to consumers, businesses, and supply chain partners, the port remains steadfast in ensuring smooth cargo transportation. We are committed to ensuring a seamless logistics flow at the year-end and look forward to moderate growth in cargo volume in 2026."

Frank Colonna, Chairman of the Long Beach Harbor Commission, remarked, "With outstanding performances by the port and operators, we are on track for a record-breaking year and have successfully managed the rush of shipments in 2025. We are dedicated to ensuring that consumers have a smooth shopping experience through both physical stores and online channels during the busy holiday season."

As of the first 11 months of 2025, the Port of Long Beach has handled a cumulative total of 9.0475 million standard containers, representing a 2.9% increase compared to the same period last year.
