According to foreign media reports, on December 10th local time, the container ship "ONE CONTINUITY," owned by ONE, encountered severe weather south of the Canary Islands, with approximately 45 containers going missing.
The vessel was traversing the Atlantic Ocean at the time, when it was hit by violent waves, causing the stern to shift.
The impact of the huge waves caused nearly 100 containers on board to become unstable, with around 45 containers falling into the sea and others sustaining damage.
To ensure the safety of the vessel and the integrity of the remaining cargo, the captain was forced to adjust the route and urgently return to the port of Las Palmas for inspection and handling.
Data shows that the "ONE CONTINUITY" is 320.4 meters long, 46 meters wide, built in August 2008, sailing under the flag of Singapore, with a TEU capacity of 8102 and a DWT of 90466.
The vessel was originally sailing on the FP1 route, departing from Le Havre, France on December 4th, with plans to arrive at the port of Singapore on January 10, 2026.
The 45 containers that fell into the sea were mostly empty, therefore not causing direct major pollution. However, empty containers still pose a potential threat, risking the safety of navigation for passing vessels.
The ship has commenced unloading the damaged containers and rearranging the cargo at the port of Las Palmas. Dockworkers are using shore cranes to handle the damaged containers to ensure the vessel can safely resume its journey.
