The operating total capacity of the CMA CGM Group has also reached 4 million TEUs, becoming the third container shipping company after Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) and Maersk to exceed 4 million TEUs in capacity.

According to Alphaliner data as of July 5, 2025, the total capacity of the CMA CGM Group has reached 4,014,290 TEUs, with a fleet of 685 vessels. Among these, their owned capacity consists of 332 vessels with 2,396,604 TEUs, while their leased capacity comprises 353 vessels with 1,617,686 TEUs, accounting for 40.3% of the total capacity. Additionally, CMA CGM has 94 vessels on order, with an ordered capacity of 1,489,480 TEUs, representing 37.1% of the total capacity, making it the second largest in terms of ordered capacity after MSC.

As understood by Zhongjin, CMA CGM's total capacity has doubled over the past 16 years. According to Alphaliner's data, CMA CGM surpassed 1 million TEUs in June 2009, reached 2 million TEUs in 2016, and exceeded 3 million TEUs in 2021.

Headquartered in Marseille, France, the CMA CGM Group has expanded its capacity through a series of acquisitions, enabling rapid business growth. Since its establishment, CMA CGM, formerly known as Compagnie Générale Maritime (CGM) and Australia National Line (ANL), has acquired several companies. In 1999, CMA CGM was renamed from CGM. In 2005, CMA CGM acquired Delmas, a French international shipping company. In 2016, CMA CGM acquired American President Lines (APL).

Furthermore, CMA CGM has acquired several feeder shipping companies, including MacAndrews, Cheng Lie Navigation, U.S. Lines, COMANAV, OPDR, Mercosul Line, Sofrana Uniline, Containerships Ltd Oy, among others.
