The CEO of the world's largest container shipping company, Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), Soren Toft, stated on social media that despite market volatility, the company achieved growth in the second quarter.

Soren Toft mentioned, "Despite market fluctuations, we have continued to grow in the second quarter. MSC's independent east-west network has performed well, and we are optimizing with flexibility being the key."

According to Zhongjin's understanding, in the first half of this year, the shipping market faced complexities due to the impact of Trump 2.0 tariffs and intertwined geopolitical risks, leading to some instability in demand, especially across the trans-Pacific routes. However, overall performance, including that of top container shipping companies like Maersk and CMA CGM, indicated a significant improvement in the first half of this year compared to the same period last year.

Mediterranean Shipping Company, controlled by the Italian Aponte family and privately held, does not disclose financial performance. In recent years, under the leadership of Soren Toft as CEO, the company has posted similar quarterly summaries on social media, indicating success not only in standalone operations but also in strategic expansion.

Soren Toft mentioned that the acquisition of Wilson Sons further strengthened their presence in Brazil. In Africa, with continuous investments in port infrastructure and handling equipment, West African ports are now seeing the regular operation of ultra-large container vessels (ULCV).

He stated, "A few years ago, it was almost unthinkable, but now it has become a reality."

Meanwhile, MSC's subsidiary in Africa, African Global Logistics (AGL), has secured 230 million euros for expanding the container terminal in Pointe Noire, Republic of Congo, expected to commence operations in 2027.

According to the latest data from Alphaliner (July 1, 2025), MSC operates 924 vessels, including 630 owned and 294 chartered vessels, with a total capacity of 6.673 million TEU and a market share of 20.6%. Additionally, MSC holds 124 newbuild orders totaling 2.021 million TEU.
