China Merchants Heavy Industry (Jiangsu) held a ship delivery and naming ceremony for the 9200-vehicle dual-fuel car carrier "BYD CHANGSHA" built for BYD in Haimen, Jiangsu. Ms. Gong Qing, Director of BYD Institute of Basic Science, attended and served as the naming guest for the ship delivery ceremony. Also present at the event were Mr. Wang Dezhi, Deputy Secretary-General of the Changsha Municipal People's Government; Mr. Wu Sichuan, Chairman of China Merchants Industrial Group; Mr. Liu Huanming, Vice President and General Manager of the Audit and Inspection Department of BYD Group; and Mr. Wang Junbao, General Manager of BYD's Public Affairs Business Division.

The "BYD CHANGSHA" is one of the largest LNG dual-fuel car carriers delivered to date, named after Changsha, reflecting the spirit of innovation of this historic city. The vessel has 9200 standard loading spaces and utilizes the latest LNG dual-fuel clean power technology, enabling BYD vehicles to be delivered to global customers in a faster, safer, and more environmentally friendly manner.

According to Zhongjin's understanding, BYD has ordered four 9200-vehicle LNG dual-fuel car carriers from China Merchants Industrial, with two being built by China Merchants Heavy Industry (Jiangsu) and China Merchants Jinling Shipyard, planned for delivery and operation in 2025. These new ships have been fully designed and detailed by the Finnish ship design and engineering company Deltamarin to meet specific trade requirements for BYD. Previously, the "BYD SHENZHEN" and "BYD XI'AN," built by Jinling Shipyard, were delivered in April and June, respectively.

The "BYD CHANGSHA" has a total length of 219.9 meters, a beam of 37.7 meters, a service speed of 19 knots, and a total of 16 decks. As a new generation dual-fuel car carrier, the ship features an LNG/fuel dual-fuel propulsion system, meeting the energy efficiency and carbon emission requirements of the International Maritime Organization's third phase; it is the first to install BYD box batteries and shaft generators, offering technical advantages in green environmental protection and intelligent efficiency. Additionally, energy-saving equipment and technologies such as selective catalytic reduction with controllable silicon and exhaust gas recirculation have been used for denitrification, ensuring nitrogen oxide emissions comply with the strictest current standards. Furthermore, the vessel is equipped with a high-voltage shore power system to achieve zero carbon emissions during loading and unloading at the dock.

With the continuous expansion of China's automobile exports in 2025, the demand for specialized car carriers is gradually increasing. BYD's establishment of its own car carrier fleet allows the consolidation of key transportation resources in its hands, providing solid supply chain security for its brand's overseas expansion strategy.

In 2025, BYD's overseas sales business continued to grow positively, with overseas sales reaching 88,640 vehicles in May, a 133.6% year-on-year increase. The new energy vehicle industry has expanded to over a hundred countries and regions globally, garnering favor among car owners worldwide. The "BYD XI'AN," delivered on the 21st of this month, will depart today, carrying approximately 7,000 BYD vehicles to Europe, making stops in countries such as the UK, Italy, Spain, and Belgium.

Currently, the operational car carriers "EXPLORER NO.1," "BYD CHANGZHOU," "BYD HEFEI," "BYD SHENZHEN," and "BYD XI'AN" from BYD have transported over 70,000 new energy vehicles to various destinations worldwide. With the addition of the "BYD CHANGSHA," BYD plans to deploy a total of 8 car carriers by January 2026.

In the future, BYD will continue to uphold its brand mission of "meeting people's aspirations for a better life through technological innovation," driving the coordinated development of the Chinese automobile industry in the global market.
