At the ongoing China Import and Export Fair (Canton Fair), multiple Chinese export companies have revealed that U.S. retail giants, including Walmart, home improvement retailer Home Depot, and Target, have notified them to resume shipments and stated that "tariffs will be borne by the American buyers."

These U.S. retail companies issued this notification to Chinese suppliers after meeting with President Trump last Monday (April 21). Due to U.S. tariffs on Chinese goods, some suppliers had temporarily halted shipments to the U.S. earlier this month.

A manager from a Chinese Guangdong-based porcelain export company told Ming Pao that they received a notice to resume shipments, but only for festive-style products, while some orders for everyday styles were even canceled.

Walmart China recently announced that it would establish a green channel for eligible foreign trade enterprises. The specific scope and details of the notifications from retailers like Walmart are currently unclear.

As per sources, last Monday (April 21), the CEOs of three major U.S. retailers went to the White House to meet with President Trump to discuss the potential impacts of U.S. tariff policies on their primarily import-based business models.

Consumers, after enduring years of high inflation, are actively seeking low-priced goods. For retailers, tariff policies have become a new threat under the current challenging economic conditions.

According to CNBC, Walmart CEO Doug McMillon, Target CEO Brian Cornell, and Home Depot's Chairman, President, and CEO Ted Decker attended this meeting. Details of the meeting were first disclosed by Bloomberg, and it was not listed on the President's public schedule for that day.

Both Chinese and American companies are consciously maintaining the normal operation of their supply chains, which once again demonstrates that tariff barriers cannot reverse the rigid demand in Sino-U.S. trade relations.
