BYD surpassed Toyota in May this year, successfully securing the fourth position in the Brazilian light vehicle retail market. According to new vehicle registration data released by the National Federation of Automotive Distributors (Fenabrave) in Brazil, BYD achieved a market share of 8.86% in the Brazilian market for new light passenger and commercial vehicles. In May, BYD outperformed traditional brands like Hyundai, Honda, and Jeep in light vehicle retail sales.

In the overall ranking of light vehicle retail sales, BYD follows Fiat (with a market share of 14.77% in new light vehicle sales), Volkswagen, and General Motors. Additionally, in the Brazilian market for new electric vehicles, BYD holds a dominant position with a market share of 80.62%. In the hybrid vehicle segment, BYD ranks second, just behind Fiat.

Fenabrave's data only covers new vehicle retail sales and does not include bulk sales to government agencies and rental companies. In the comprehensive ranking that includes bulk sales of light vehicles, BYD ranked seventh in May. Furthermore, in May of this year, the BYD brand's new vehicles topped the sales charts for light vehicles in five capital cities in Brazil, including Brasília, Porto Alegre, Natal, Maceió, and Vitória.

At the same time, two models from the BYD brand entered the top 25 list of new vehicle registrations nationwide in Brazil in May: the BYD Song with 14,683 registrations and the BYD Dolphin Mini with 11,403 registrations. This sales growth is primarily driven by the increasing demand for electric and hybrid vehicle models in the Brazilian market.

Statistical data indicates that BYD's cost-effective model, the Dolphin Mini, ranked fifth in the list of best-selling small two-door cars in Brazil in May, directly competing with traditional fuel-based small two-door car models. Currently, BYD has 180 authorized dealerships across Brazil.
