Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, was officially selected on May 27th as the host city for the 2029 World Table Tennis Championships. This decision was announced during the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) General Assembly held in Doha, Qatar, marking the first time the World Table Tennis Championships will be held in a city in the Americas. In the bidding process, Rio de Janeiro ultimately prevailed over Berlin, Germany, and San Jose, USA.

Zhongjin learned that after three rounds of voting, Rio de Janeiro secured the hosting rights for the 2029 World Table Tennis Championships in the final round with a vote of 131 to 68. Before the voting, the Brazilian delegation presented a fantastic promotion for Rio and its culture, with speakers including Rio Mayor Eduardo Paes, Brazilian Olympic Committee President Marco La Porta, and World Table Tennis Championships runner-up Hugo Calderano.

Vilmar Schindler, President of the Brazilian Table Tennis Federation (CBTM), stated at the Doha meeting, "We will host the grandest World Table Tennis Championships in history. Brazil has made breakthroughs in table tennis, thanks to the joint efforts of CBTM, coaches, athletes, and the entire table tennis community. Rio will once again open its arms to welcome the world."

On May 25th, Hugo Calderano from Rio won a historic silver medal at the World Table Tennis Championships held in Doha, breaking the long-standing dominance of Asian and European players. Alaor Azevedo, Special Advisor to CBTM and Vice President of ITTF, also welcomed the decision to host the event in the Americas for the first time in Rio: "The World Table Tennis Championships are coming to the Americas for the first time, and they have chosen Rio, this beautiful city and former Olympic City. Thanks to the trust of the International Table Tennis Federation and the global table tennis community. We will host an unforgettable World Championships!"
